About Us
The "Mighty Crabs" of Southern Maryland Rowing Association offers community rowing programs for all ability levels in St. Mary's City, Maryland. Our sweep rowing activities are run out of the St. Mary's College of Maryland (SMCM) River Center, while our sculling boats are stored and rowed at the Historic St. Mary's City Recreation area at Chancellor's Point, both of which provide access to the beautiful St. Mary's River.

Thanks to the generous cooperation of SMCM, we have access to large sweep-rowing boats (eights and fours), along with our club-owned sculling boats (quads, doubles, and singles). We hold on-the-water practices from late spring through the first week of November.
SMRA members range in all ages and abilities, from college students to retirees. Some of us like to compete, while others prefer the recreational aspects of the sport, but we all row for fun and camaraderie. Depending on member interest, the club competes in nearby regattas such as Virginia Boat Club Sprints in Midlothian, VA, and Head of the Occoquan in Lorton, VA.

As a small organization, SMRA depends on the volunteer efforts of the members. We all pitch in on boat maintenance, launch driving, coxing, and general administrative duties. Did we say fun, too? Members hold periodic socials and get-togethers. All of this is funded by membership dues and donations.
